A little bit about me……
I have been back drawing for about a year now after a 15 year or so lapse.
When I was a kid I used to draw illustrations out of books & comic strips. Then it was people - photos of celebrities in magazines etc. (showing my age here – well before you could scour Google images!)
I must say even though I loved it always thought this was pretty weird & not particularly creative - drawing is pretty antisocial, so I just kind of grew out of it in my late teens.
Over the years I did the odd sketch – but I thought you had to do still lifes to call yourself an artist & I could never get terribly excited about bowls of fruit. I always had it in the back of my head that I wanted to start drawing again – but it has nagged at me more & more over the last couple of years.
Discovering DeviantArt was just the best thing ever! – I mean I had seriously thought I was the only person in the world who liked drawing people from photographs (pretty odd right?)
I remember frantically clicking images in DA in open-mouthed awe wondering why the hell I ever stopped doing this? - it’s been this wonderful kind of validation that I’m not totally nuts after all! - Love this place!
I have two crazy boys aged 2 & 4, so drawing time is a little short - after they go to bed at night for an hour or two. I'm aiming for a pic a week.
PS. I only tend to favourite or comment on things in my own genre – not because I don’t appreciate other styles of art like digital or whatever, some of them are just wonderful – it’s just because I don’t really understand what it takes to make a great picture in these mediums - so I don’t feel qualified to give any feedback.
A huuuuuge thank you to everyone who comments on or faves my work, I do try to reply to everyone – but sometimes they just slip through the cracks. It has been the most inspiring thing ever – to have someone say they like your work, especially since its’ not the kind of thing you show around down at the playgroup.
UPDATE: Ok I have given up on thanking for faves altogether - too time consuming thats the end of that!
